Tech786: Tata Nano is now set to make a comeback in a new avatar and a new style. The Tata Nano, called Ratan Tata’s Dream Project, may have gone out of the market but now it may make a comeback in the electric avatar. Recently, the electric version of Tata Nano has been spotted during testing. However, the test model saw Neo branding instead of Nano.
About three years ago in November 2017, Tata Motors in partnership with Jayam Automotive announced the launch of the electric version of the Tata Nano. The car was planned to be launched under the Jayam Neo brand.
What will be special in Tata Nano Electric?
According to the new report, a 48 volt (23 horsepower) electric motor of 17.7 kW capacity has been used in Tata Nano Electric. This motor is supplied by Electra EV, the same company also supplied electric motors for Tiago and Tigor. However according to the original agreement of the two companies, Tata Motors had to supply the body panel of the car to Jayam and the Coimbatore based company had to install electric motors.
The top speed of this car will be 85 kilometers per hour and this car can give a driving range of up to 203 kilometers in a single charge. According to reports, this car with AC and 4 adults will travel for about 140 kilometers. However, no official information has been received from the company about it.
Now it has to be seen whether this car is launched in the name of Tata Nano or in the name of Jeyam Neo, although there is no batch of Nano found on the testing model. According to reports, this car will include anti-lock braking system, belt reminder for the front seat, reverse parking sensor.
Ola to be launched in electric fleet
According to media reports, this car was planned to be launched in the fleet of Ola Electric. However, after years, no information about the production and preparation of this car could be found. Now according to the report published in Rushlane, the Neo electric car has been spotted on the streets of Pune at the time of testing.
Nearly 2 years after the partnership between Tata Motors and Neo, in mid-2019, a report surfaced that, Ola Electric acquired a debt fund of Rs 40 crore from Tata Motors Finance to purchase the Jeyam Neo electric car as City Taxi. Now, almost three years after this announcement, Tata Nano Electric was neither launched for the fleet operators nor as a private car.
