  • Go to the Google Drive app on your smartphone. Click on the three dots in the upper left to see a new menu.
  • Now if you click on ‘Bin’ you will see the recently deleted files. If it is empty, the file you are looking for may be permanently deleted or may be longer than 30 days. It is also a good idea to make sure your internet connection is working properly.
  • If there is a file behind your trash you need to click on the three-dot menu to the right of the file and click on ‘Restore’ on the screen that now appears.
  • Now if “item has been restored” appears then you know that your file has been saved again. Your file will now be saved back to its original location.

What to do to recover on computer / laptop:

  • Open the browser on your desktop computer and go to drive.google.com. Or login directly to use your Google Account.
  • Once you are logged in, open ‘My Drive’ and click on ‘Trash’ on the left to open it.
  • On the screen that appears now you will see a list of files deleted in the last 30 days. Find the file you want and click on it. Then click on ‘Trash for My Drive’ at the top right of the screen and two icons will appear.
  • Clicking on ‘Restore from Trash’ will save your file again.
  • Now your file will be saved back to where it was before deleting. If you do not find the file you are looking for, you can use the ‘search’ tool to find it.
